According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the incident unfolded when a male suspect exited a gray Nissan occupied by four other men and entered a silver 2015 Toyota Prius while the victim was pumping gas. The suspect attempted to start the Prius but was unsuccessful, prompting the victim to alert the authorities.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found the suspect still seated in the victim's vehicle. He was promptly arrested and discovered to have a loaded 9mm Glock 19 handgun. A subsequent search of the gray Nissan uncovered additional weapons, including a loaded 9mm Springfield XD handgun and a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun, raising concerns about the suspects' intentions during the attempted theft.

The investigation identified the four other male suspects involved in the incident, all of whom have been charged. The suspects are 27-year-old Giaooni Lamont Howard from Washington, DC; 23-year-old Antonio Henry Pavon Jr. from Mount Rainier, Maryland; 25-year-old Tyson Damond Sampson from Washington, DC; and 26-year-old Onaje Adarryl Chapman from Capitol Heights, Maryland, along with 25-year-old Marquette David Acker, also from Washington, DC. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
