In a move to bolster the vocational prospects of young Texans, Governor Greg Abbott has declared a substantial grant of over $329,000 to Westwood Independent School District. The grant, sourced from the Texas Workforce Commission’s Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) program, is earmarked for career and technical education (CTE) training, with the current focus on welding. As reported by the Office of the Texas Governor, this funding will support the training of 172 students in partnership with Trinity Valley Community College.

The award presentation took place at Westwood ISD in Palestine, Texas, where TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza handed over the grants in the presence of state and local officials, as well as school staff and CTE students.
