The battle for the most fetching cistern crown is on, and Robinson's Elevated Storage Tank (EST) is one contender not to be ignored. The Tnemec Company, which annually searches for a storage tank that stands above the rest, has noticed the artisanal touch that Robinson's EST brings to the world of municipal water storage by nominating it for the "Tank of the Year" competition, with voting open through October 18, 2024, according to the City of Grand Prairie.
Strategically positioned east of State Highway 161, near W. Marshall Drive and Robinson Road, the Robinson EST isn't just a towering pail but a canvas, showcasing three sprawling murals dedicated to regional icons including Lone Star Park, Grand Prairie lakes, and EpicCentral the murals, completed in August, were the handiwork of artist Eric Henn, as per the City of Grand Prairie, touted that "There's more attention to these water towers," adding, "They become a landmark and people identify areas with the water tower," underscoring the communal and navigational importance of such structures.
Noreen Housewright, the director of Engineering and Utility Services for Grand Prairie, effused about the project stating, per the City of Grand Prairie, "Just the water tower on its own is amazing" and noting the dual satisfaction in constructing a facility that not only serves the current citizens but also lays the groundwork for future growth in an interview she expressed the enjoyment derived from infusing creativity into such a utilitarian project, proclaiming, "For years to come, we can look at and have pride that we're a part of."
