Grand Rapids Teen Charged with Two Counts of Murder in Burton Heights Tragedy

Following a year-long investigation into a violent string of events that left three people dead, Grand Rapids police have announced the arrest of 19-year-old Casey Harmon Jr. Standing accused of the murders of Anayia Rodriguez and Malik Eubanks on November 6, 2023, Harmon is charged with two counts of open murder and a weapons charge, as reported by WZZM 13. 

Darryl Yarber, whose connection to the earlier murders remains nebulous. Adding to the tragedy, Eubanks' toddler was found nearly a mile away from the crime scene, with blood on him but physically unharmed, as captured by a surveillance video and reported by WOODTV. It is believed the child might have witnessed his father's murder.

In the intervening months, Harmon Jr. has been in custody on unrelated charges since March 15, details FOX 17. Those charges, including perjury, resisting arrest, and illegal weapon possession, have seen a mix of outcomes, with three being dismissed.

Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom articulated the weight of these proceedings, stating, “I hope these charges bring some closure to the loved ones of Anayia and Malik and will help our city, and this neighborhood in particular, heal from that tragic day,” as reported by FOX 17. The department continues to appeal to the public for information regarding the unresolved death of Darryl Yarber.
