A quiet Granite Bay neighborhood became the backdrop for a grim double homicide investigation this week. In a startling development, ABC10 reported that Josef Meinzer, 36, was arrested after allegedly murdering his mother, Janell Meinzer, 67, and brother, Lance Meinzer, 45. The Placer County Sheriff's Office confirmed to have received a report on Monday morning of suspicious circumstances at the home before a standoff transpired.
The situation escalated quickly as deputies from the Placer County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene along Oak Leaf Way after 8 a.m., where they ultimately persuaded Meinzer to surrender at around 11:45 a.m. A tactical team and crisis negotiators had to be deployed to effectively communicate and convince the man to give himself up, as reported by ABC10.
The investigation took a turn when officials entered the house and discovered the victims. As per KCRA, "He did come out and was detained. Our investigators then went inside the home, and once inside, they found a man and woman both deceased. Their deaths are being investigated as a homicide. We don't believe that there are any additional suspects outside of the one man who was detained," said Elise Soviar of the Placer County Sheriff's Office. The closure of Oak Leaf Way between Lou Place and Macduff Drive underscored the gravity of the police activity that day. The motive behind the killings still remains, to put by the police, under investigation.
