A flurry of gunfire and a series of car burglaries rattled the Rafferty's parking lot on North Germantown Parkway on Monday evening. Action News 5 reports that the incident began around 8:00 p.m., with no injuries reported thus far.
Memphis police converged on the scene following the chaos. A patron inside Rafferty's at the time reported, "he heard shooting and that cars were being broken into in the parking lot," as mentioned by Action News 5. Upon exiting the establishment, the same individual witnessed a man in a white shirt firing a weapon before fleeing in a black Mercedes SUV. Notably, the back window of this victim's Dodge Charger sustained multiple bullet strikes and had a smashed rear passenger window.
Additional vehicles also fell prey to the assailant, according to both WREG and Action News 5. A silver Acura MDX and a black Infiniti QX5 were reported as being shot, with the latter's incident involving the passenger side rear window. Police have conveyed that a tan Savage 62AR pistol was purloined from the Dodge Charger, as per the owner's statement to authorities.
In the wake of the disturbance, customer testimony surfaced. "They were telling us to get down and crawl on the floor," Latonya Wilson, an affected Infiniti owner, recounted, as per FOX13 interview. Wilson also noted her hesitancy to frequently drive the Infiniti due to its desirability target by thieves. Meanwhile, the Memphis Police's endeavor to apprehend the suspect persists, with no leads announced at the time of reporting.
Rafferty’s has yet to comment on the incident, despite outreach efforts for a statement by FOX13. Patrons of the restaurant and residents in the vicinity remain shaken, but the quest for resolution and safety in Cordova continues.
