As Rosh Hashanah celebrations commenced, a frightening home invasion occurred in Southfield, where a gunman entered a rabbi's residence, amidst a gathering of University of Michigan students. According to The Detroit News, the armed intruder, described by Southfield police as a Black male in his late teens or early 20s, burst into the home through a backdoor and demanded valuables, forcing the occupants to flee unharmed.
Further reports from WWJ Newsradio revealed that although a bag was stolen, there were no injuries, and law enforcement officials were able to take a woman associated with the incident into custody. They are now intensifying efforts to locate the male suspect whose identity has been determined but who remains at large, with no information provided about how the female was involved in the crime, this has left the community shaken.
University of Michigan President Santa Ono addressed the incident, indicating the increased security measures around campus and the ongoing investigation. "This past year, there have been innumerable events locally and globally that have felt overwhelming and unsettling to many in our community," Ono said in a statement, as per The Detroit News. He urged the community to uphold kindness and respect during these trying times.
