A Harris County detention officer has been charged with sexually assaulting a co-worker after a graduation ceremony for the Harris County Sheriff's Office Academy. The incident allegedly occurred following an outing at Mi Rancho, a local eatery where the co-workers convened to celebrate.
26-year-old Jeleel Williams is accused of assaulting the female employee who was reportedly heavily intoxicated during the event. According to FOX 26 Houston, the victim stated she could not recall consenting to sexual activity with Williams but has fragmented memories of the encounter. Despite the woman's reported condition, Williams admitted to prosecutors that consensual sex took place, but he felt it was not "morally right."
Jeleel Williams, who posted a $50,000 bond, appeared in court on Friday and has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the charges. He claimed that despite the victim’s inability to walk straight or drive, she initiated sexual contact which he initially declined before engaging in sexual acts at a later point. These claims were noted in the charging documents released to the public, as reported by KHOU.
As the case moves forward, the court expects to see Williams again in November for further proceedings. Meanwhile, the Harris County Sheriff's Office has yet to release a formal statement regarding the suspension or the alleged incident, with Williams' employment status currently hanging in uncertainty.
