An Easton man is facing charges after police say he's been swiping packages off neighborhood porches. A surveillance operation led to the arrest of Aneudy Jose Nunez-Diaz, 26, a Haverhill resident caught in the act last Friday. According to Boston 25 News, Nunez-Diaz was found with an Apple iPhone, revealed to be secreted away on his person, believed to be taken from a local residence.
The situation is a ripple in what's been called a "recent surge" in package thefts, an issue troubling Easton and neighboring communities. Upon his arrest, Nunez-Diaz was charged with multiple offenses, including larceny under $1,200 and receiving stolen property over $1,200. "Multiple other packages were also recovered which were stolen from neighboring towns," as per a statement obtained by Boston 25 News. With recent crimes in mind, the police have urged residents to be more vigilant, especially as an upturn in such thefts has been noted.
