Hernando County has taken a tangible step towards aiding its residents by opening a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the West Hernando Library Branch. This facility, located at 6335 Blackbird Ave., Brooksville, FL 34613, will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until further notice, providing a much-needed resource for those affected.
The DRC aims to serve as an informational hub where survivors can learn about available services from state agencies, FEMA, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. People seeking assistance with federal aid applications, loan inquiries, or updates on existing applications will find this center particularly useful. According to a recent public announcement by the Hernando County, "Residents are welcome to visit any open center as you don’t have to reside in that county." To conveniently locate a nearby center, individuals can visit the DRC Locator or floridadisaster.org, or text DRC along with their zip code to 43362.
However, for those who prefer to avoid a physical visit, the county confirms that it is not necessary to visit in person. Multiple avenues are available for survivors to apply or get assistance, such as calling 800-621-3362, going online at disasterassistance.gov, or through the FEMA mobile app. This helpline is accessible from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET and offers help in most languages.
