As Hurricane Milton battered the Tampa area, a distressing incident unfolded on the 1700 block of E. Wood St. This past weekend, a tree toppled onto a residence, prompting an urgent 911 call from inside the home — a domicile that was, at the time, sheltering 15 individuals including children. The weight of the storm could hardly compare to the burden of fear resting on the shoulders of those within the walls of the stricken home.
The Tampa Police, who themselves were seeking refuge a scant couple miles from the scene, sprang into action at the first sign of a reprieve from Milton's relentless gusts. According to the Tampa government website, these officers navigated the tempest's deceptive calm to reach those in dire need of aid.
On arrival, police swiftly evacuated all occupants from the precarious hold of their damaged abode. Ensuring no lives were lost nor injury sustained, the officers then coordinated transport for the individuals to the nearest shelter, safeguarding them from the storm's continuing onslaught. In an act of thorough caution, one officer made certain to turn off the main power to the home before making their departure, averting further hazard.
