Earlier today, a high-speed chase in Dorchester led to the apprehension of 25-year-old Kyvon Ross on multiple criminal charges. According to a report from Boston Police Department, officers patrolling Washington St. and Columbia Rd. observed a moped speeding by—notably without license plates—carrying two individuals who were hooded and masked, neither of whom was wearing a helmet.

The chase began when officers set off in pursuit as the moped made an illicit turn onto Erie St., and then proceeded the wrong way down Greenwood St. Coming to a halt — officers approached on foot. It was then, the police account states, Ross aimed the moped at an approaching officer, managing to narrowly avoid a collision. The attempted evasion ended abruptly when the moped hit a sidewalk curb, causing both riders to tumble to the ground.

According to Boston Police, Ross became combative as the officers attempted to take him into custody, resulting in a violent confrontation. During the struggle, an officer felt a firearm in Ross's waistband. "Ross continued to resist and attempted to remove an Officer’s hand from the firearm inside his waistband and a struggle ensued," the police report detailed. The backup arrived, and eventually, officers subdued Ross and retrieved the weapon—a Glock 22 with an obliterated serial number, carrying thirteen rounds in a fifteen-round magazine and an additional round in the chamber.

The incident led to injuries for two officers, both considered minor, although one required medical attention. Ross faces serious charges, including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number While Committing a Felony, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and various motor vehicle violations, all of which will be addressed in Dorchester District Court.
