Amid efforts to quell criminal activities in Yucaipa, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department performed a targeted operation which resulted in the arrest of a man on drug and gun charges. The suppression effort took place on the evening of Wednesday, October 23rd.
The operation culminated in the encounter with 50-year-old Highland resident, Sam Alexander Peralta, at Flag Hill Veterans Memorial Park. Officials said that Peralta, who was on Post Release Community Supervision, was found with a concealed illegal "ghost gun," ammunition, and suspected narcotics. The ghost gun—a term for firearms that lack serial numbers and are often assembled from kits—has increasingly become a focal point in discussions on gun control, and their presence in the hands of those with criminal intent, adds a layer of complexity for law enforcement.
Following the discovery, Peralta faced arrest and subsequent booking into the Central Detention Center. The charges, as outlined by the authorities, include possession of a controlled substance while armed, a violation outlined under H.S. 11370.1(A), and a probation violation. The Sheriff-Coroner of San Bernardino County, Shannon D. Dicus, presided over the department at the time of the release.
The official press release provided by the department's account detailed the incident and urged those with more information to step forward, directing them to Yucaipa Police Station or WeTip for those wishing to remain anonymous. Meanwhile, the case document bearing number 142403574 remains an active vestige of the night's endeavor, for those who followed the breadcrumbs of justice laid out by Deputy Arden or Deputy Ziemer of the Yucaipa Station.
