As Tropical Storm Milton inches closer packing the potential for significant rainfall, Hillsborough County is taking action by setting up three sandbag operation sites as of noon today. Residents of the area are gearing up, readying their defenses against the brewing storm. These sites will be available for locals seeking to fortify their homes against the deluge expected to sweep through their streets.
According to an announcement published by Hillsborough County's official website, the sandbagging stations are slated to run from noon to 5 p.m. today, and Monday's operations will extend from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather allowing. The sites that have been mobilized for this effort include the E.G. Simmons Conservation Park, Ed Radice Sports Complex, and Larry Sanders Sports Complex, crucial points strategically positioned for residents' easy access to necessary storm-fighting resources; like sandbags they require as they brace for Tropical Storm Milton’s heavy rains.
These self-serve sandbag locations call for residents to be their first line of defense, prepared to fill their sandbags in anticipation of the coming storm. The county stresses that these services are intended to assist county residents exclusively, utilizing proof of residence—such as a driver's license or current utility bill—as the key to access. This measure ensures that resources are allocated to those within the bounds of the impending storm's reach.
A cap has been placed on sandbag distribution, allowing for a maximum of 10 sandbags per vehicle, a limit designed to ensure that all residents have a chance to get their share before the storm hits. Amid the flurry of preparations, rolling clouds heave with the impending torrent, the county alert serves as a stark reminder of nature's imminent challenge, and while the parks remain accessible to the public today, the E.G. Simmons Conservation Park will be closed on Saturday,.
