Hillsborough County is providing relief for pickleball players tomorrow by unveiling a new shade structure over six courts at the Northlakes Sports Complex. The ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m.

As reported by Hillsborough County's press release, the steel and aluminum structure stands tall and noticeable, overshadowing the pickleball courts that have been rapidly increasing across the county. In recent years, the Parks and Recreation Department has been working to meet the high demand for these courts, as pickleball has quickly become the county's fastest-growing sport.

Located at 2640 N. Lakeview Dr., Tampa, FL 33618, the Northlakes Sports Complex's transformation includes revamped tennis courts, now repurposed as six pickleball courts generously shaded by the 167-by-132-foot structure. Also new to the complex is the inclusion of lighting and bleacher seating.

Hillsborough County now has 40 pickleball courts, including some converted from tennis courts by adding new stripes to support both sports. The latest addition at Northlakes is not just for convenience; it reflects the growing popularity of pickleball, which has become a lasting part of the community's sports culture.
