Honolulu Police Department's recent resolution of a chilling kidnapping case culminated in the arrest of a 33-year-old man, having charged him for the abduction of a 26-year-old woman; this man is now entangled in the legal system with a $500,000 bail looming over him, as reported by KHON2. In an unsettling occurrence on Oct. 9, witnesses described a woman being forced into a black Jeep by a man who, upon further investigation, was believed to be her boyfriend, an unsettling event that prompted police to issue an alert, the woman screamed for help which set in motion the eventual capture of her alleged captor.
While initial information was sparse, KITV's coverage outlined that after the HPD broadcasted an All-Points Bulletin for the Jeep and leveraged social media to disseminate the vehicle description, no one was found at the registered owner's address and the Jeep's whereabouts were initially unknown, causing concern and unease within the community. It was the committed surveillance and investigative effort by the Criminal Investigation Division Strategic Enforcement Detail, starting as early as 5 a.m. the following day, that led to a successful identification of the suspect and victim.
The HPD's Strategic Enforcement Detail alongside District Five officers eventually surmounted the challenge of locating the suspect, the arrest occurring in the Nimitz area of Kalihi without further incidence as noted by KHON2. The man, now under custody, was arrested "on the strength of a Warrant of Arrest."
The narrative came to a somewhat relieving conclusion with the find of the 26-year-old woman, who was discovered safe; it was a possibly fractured fairytale as witnesses related that the two involved had a romantic relationship that veered off course, the man allegedly turned abusive and kept her against her will.
