Early Thursday morning, a 51-year-old man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident along North Kuakini Street. The pedestrian was reportedly lying in the street when an older model white pickup truck hit him and failed to stop, leaving the scene without offering aid. According to KHON2, the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is actively seeking information about the driver responsible for the collision.
The tragic event occurred around 3:30 a.m., and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. As the perpetrator drove away, the authorities were left with the task of deeply understanding what transpired in the moments leading up to the collision. At this point, it is unclear whether the factors of speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the fatality. KITV reported that this incident raised Oahu's traffic fatality count to 36 for the year, a slight reduction from the same time last year.
HPD has issued an appeal to the public, urging anyone with information regarding the driver or the white pickup truck, which was last seen traveling eastbound, to come forward.
