A member of the notorious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, identified as Jorgenys Robertson Cova, 32, has been taken into custody in Houston, based on a report by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). Cova was arrested on October 7th by DPS Special Agents who were collaborating with the Houston Police Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The capture of Cova followed a tip received in late September about a suspected member of the Tren de Aragua living in Houston. The suspect, later confirmed to be Cova, had an asylum hearing scheduled in the city on the day of his arrest. Investigators had been able closely to monitor his activities, during which they noted tattoos consistent with TdA markings, a five-point crown, and a clock and roses, on his arms.
Further details provided by the DPS indicate that Cova had a criminal warrant for theft in Pearland, Texas. He was arrested without incident and has been booked into the Brazoria Co. Jail, according to the DPS announcement.
The Tren de Aragua gang is known for its involvement in a range of criminal activities and poses an increasing threat to public safety in Texas. In response, Governor Greg Abbott’s Public Safety Office has been actively encouraging citizens to report any suspected gang activity. The state is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identity and arrest of any known or suspected Tren de Aragua members involved in criminal conduct.
Those looking to learn more or report any related criminal activity can find out more information by visiting the Governor's Public Safety Office website. The effort to clamp down on the dangerous gang continues, with law enforcement agencies across Texas remaining on high alert for gang activities.
