Michael E. West, 48, has been placed under arrest and is currently facing charges related to a tragic incident that occurred last Saturday at approximately 2:30 p.m at an apartment complex located at 5440 Braesvalley Drive. As confirmed by the City of Houston, West is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The circumstances surrounding the crime were initially misconstrued; officers dispatched to the scene were expecting to investigate reports of gunfire. Yet, upon their arrival, they discovered a scenario far removed from what was anticipated—a woman with multiple stab wounds, later declared deceased by paramedics. It was in the quiet aftermath, as detectives tried to piece together the narrative, that West opted to turn himself in for questioning and was subsequently connected to the crime.
Identifying of the victim, a 33-year-old woman, is still underway at the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Details regarding her identity remain withheld. HPD Homicide Division Detectives H. Martinez and S. Chettry spearheaded the investigation, and according to City of Houston News, "A witness reported seeing a male suspect in the victim’s apartment." It was with diligent scrutiny that the detectives connected the call West made—to willingly step forward for interrogation—to his presence in the woman's apartment. Thereafter, charges were to quickly be filed against West. He now resides behind bars at the Harris County Jail.
