Houston Police Department is currently investigating a fatal crash that happened early this morning at 12200 Katy Freeway on the service road. The incident, which took place at approximately 1:20 a.m., resulted in the death of a 39-year-old male whose name is yet to be released pending family notification, as per the City of Houston reports.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer J. Trevino provided details on the case, indicating that the male was in a black Chevrolet Malibu traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. It appears the driver lost control, subsequently causing the vehicle to quickly strike a utility pole. The impact was severe enough to eject the man from the car, leading to fatal injuries whereupon paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Notably, a second occupant of the Chevrolet Malibu, whose identity remains undisclosed, was reported to have fled the scene on foot. It remains unclear at this point whether this individual or the deceased was behind the wheel at the time of the crash, according to the City of Houston News.
Authorities are now working to sort out precisely who was the driver and to locate the male who decided to abruptly leave the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and HPD urges anyone with information to come forward.
