An investigation is underway following a fatal shooting that occurred yesterday at a business located at 2727 North Freeway. The incident, which resulted in the death of a 49-year-old man and critical injuries to another, is set to be presented before a Harris County grand jury, according to the City of Houston official website.
Houston Police Department's Homicide Division, consisting of Sergeant K. Persad and Detective L. Yasin, responded to the shooting call alongside HPD patrol officers at approximately 2:45 a.m. "HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call inside a business," the department disclosed in a statement obtained by City of Houston News. Found at the scene was an unresponsive male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite efforts by the Houston Fire Department paramedics who pronounced the male deceased at the scene, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has yet to verify the identity of the deceased. Another male victim, found with gunshot wounds, was rushed to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Following the incident, two individuals connected to the shooting proceeded to the HPD North Patrol Station to provide their statements to the homicide detectives. Reflecting on the complexities of the case, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has been involved and decided that a grand jury should review the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The case will be reviewed by a grand jury, as was determined after the District Attorney’s Office contact.
