Gunfire broke the silence of an August night in Houston, killing 37-year-old Osvaldo Casas at 611 Loper Street just after midnight. Since then, the case has progressed. According to a news release from the City of Houston, the investigation took a major step forward this past Thursday with the arrest of 17-year-old Cristian Gasca Martinez, who is now charged with murder.
Detectives M. Hughey and L. Lovelace from the HPD Homicide Division investigated the case and identified Cristian Gasca Martinez as the suspect. Their investigation, supported by evidence, led to a consultation with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, resulting in Martinez being charged. In the early hours of August 10, police arrived at a quiet and grim scene, where a man had been fatally shot multiple times. Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived but could only pronounce him dead, marking another tragic loss to street violence.
Initial reports lacked any descriptive details of the perpetrator, as Casas apparently crossed paths with someone suspicious before the shots were fired, nihilistically cementing his fate. Yet, eventually the leads narrowed, the focus tightened, and Gasca Martinez became the suspect in the eyes of the law. In the late hours this Thursday, the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force executed their warrant, arresting Gasca Martinez without further disruption to the public, setting the wheels of justice in motion as he was booked into the Harris County Jail.
