In the swiftly changing landscape of East Austin, Outer Heaven Disco Club is the latest establishment to announce its pending closure, with plans to shutter its doors by March 2025 to make way for luxury condos. In a heartfelt announcement delivered via social media, the owner of Outer Heaven lamented the non-renewal of their lease, attributing the decision to the encroaching influence of "rich investors" in the rapidly transforming neighborhood, as reported by KVUE.
The establishment, which saw its inception at the cusp of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and managed to officially open in May 2021, has been serving as a unique nightlife spot in East Austin. It is recognized not only for its entertainment offerings but also for the owner's dedication to an authentic, ad-free existence, relying solely on the power of word-of-mouth recommendations for its patronage despite dealing with pandemic-related setbacks. The proprietor also expressed pride in their investment, having restored and nurtured the character of the 80-year-old building that houses Outer Heaven, and emphasized the club's ethos of genuine experience in an "algorithm based, fake follower hellscape where nothing is ever genuine anymore," as detailed by KXAN.
The owner's finale to their social media post is a vow to make the last six months memorable, stating: "For the people that have always supported us and the ones that understand what it is we are actually trying to do here, and made this place a legit community, born from nothing, on a street no one gave a s*** about, I promise to dedicate myself to making these last 6 months something that after we’re gone, you will always have with you. Even if they are just memories," in a statement obtained by KXAN.
