
After a temporary shutdown due to a tractor-trailer rollover early this morning, westbound Interstate 70 in Washington County has been cleared for traffic, as confirmed by PennDOT. The stretch between Exit 11 at PA 221 Taylorstown and Exit 6 at PA 231 Claysville was closed, leading to detours and delays for morning commuters. The road was closed after the incident, which happened by mile marker 8.5 in Buffalo Township, but it reopened shortly before noon.
According to a post by the WPXI, a PennDOT official reported that Hazmat teams were sent to respond to the scene of the rollover, which occurred around 5:45 a.m., causing significant disruption as the semi came to rest, blocking both lanes of the highway. The Claysville Volunteer Fire Department also shared a photo illustrating the extent of the blockage.
The official cause of the accident has not been disclosed yet, and it remains unknown. Nonetheless, travelers were advised to use Route 40 as an alternative path connecting Taylorstown and Claysville during the closure. WTAE reported this detail, indicating the local authorities' efforts in managing the traffic flow around the affected segment of the interstate.
