The Jacksonville community is preparing to pay tribute to a local hero, Corrections Officer Bradford "Brad" McNew of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, whose recent passing has left a notable void. The Sheriff's Office has announced a series of memorial services in his honor, inviting the public to partake in the solemn occasion set to unfold in the coming days. According to an official statement from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the public viewing is scheduled for Monday, October 21 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, with a vigil and rosary to begin at 6 p.m.
The following day, October 22, will see Officer McNew’s memory honored with a memorial mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The mass is poised to be a reflection of the man known by his community, followed by a procession leading to Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Cemetery, where tributes will include a 21-gun salute and a flyover. Officer McNew, leaves behind his wife, Elda, and son, Liam. He was known for his years of dedication to his parishes’ choirs at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville Beach, and St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Jacksonville – and for his commitment to the Fletcher High School Marching Band.
The loss of Officer McNew is deeply felt by his family who expresses their gratitude for the community's overwhelming support during this challenging time.
