A Jacksonville woman was found dead with a head injury on the Westside, leading to her boyfriend's arrest for murder. On the morning of Thursday, officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) arrived at the location on Bulls Bay Highway to attend to an unresponsive woman, as per First Coast News. The victim, later identified as Lois Nelson, age 61, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency services.
An autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner concluded that the cause of death was homicide by blunt force trauma. JSO's investigation, supported by collected evidence, pinpointed Jason Paul Mieczkowski, 46, as the suspect responsible for Nelson's death. Mieczkowski was arrested and charged with murder. Officials from JSO communicated that the nature of the murder appears to be domestic violence-related, with Nelson discovered partially naked, with bruising to her face and body, as mentioned in the report obtained by News4Jax. Inconsistencies in Mieczkowski's account of the events raised further suspicion, leading to his arrest nearly 13 hours after the police first responded to the scene.
Records show that this is not Mieczkowski's first altercation with the law. He had previously faced battery charges in two separate instances, including an incident where he punched another former girlfriend in the face, resulting in a broken jaw. He is now faced with second-degree murder charges in the death of Lois Nelson and violation of probation or community control, according to jail records. The details of the investigation that led to his arrest have been redacted from public reports.
