Chaos erupted at a local apartment complex yesterday evening when a robbery turned violent, leading to an exchange of gunfire. According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, around 6 p.m. on Sunday, a man found himself the target of an armed robbery after he parked his car at the 11400 block of W. Burgandy Avenue.
The victim, confronted by a handgun brandished through his open car window, was compelled to hand over his wallet, but he chose to withhold his phone. The altercation intensified when the assailant struck the victim with the weapon and fled towards a green Subaru, witnesses reported shots being fired at the victim as he followed and collided with the suspect's car, which eventually became disabled on a landscaping rock. Remarkably, despite his vehicle bearing the brunt of the gunfire, the victim escaped harm.
The search for the suspects included a full perimeter block-by-block search by deputies, assistance from a K9 Unit, and a Drone Team. Yet, the duo, a male described as black or Hispanic, between 6-foot to 6-foot-4 inches in height, 150 - 180 pounds, wearing dark clothing, and a female with a blue shirt, blue shorts, and long dark hair, evaded capture. The JCSO has not identified the suspects as of the latest update.
Residents of the neighborhood observed the pursuit and the ensuing conflict, with the suspects eventually abandoning their stranded vehicle at Belleview and Owens. Though sightings and reports poured in, the police, despite their best efforts and advanced tools, could not locate the assailants. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to the JCSO as the investigation is ongoing.
