Residents of Kalāheo should adjust their travel plans as Wawae Road will be fully closed until Friday next week, extended from the original end date of November 1 due to bad weather. The Department of Public Works and Maui Kupono Builders will work on the road on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as shared in an update from Kaua‘i County's official announcement.
The project aims to improve road conditions, but it will temporarily disrupt convenience. During the closure, local traffic will have partial access, but wait times may be up to an hour. Residents in the area will need to manage this disruption over the next few days.
Communities affected by the roadwork should make adjustments for the closure, like leaving earlier for work or school and planning alternate routes. With no parking allowed in the work areas, locals need to find legal places to park their vehicles.
