Yesterday morning, a house fire broke out on Washington Avenue near Race Street in Kalamazoo, mobilizing the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) to the scene. The incident, which was received just after 7:20 a.m., saw flames engulfing the residential structure, as recounted by FOX 17. Several occupants were reported to be inside at the time of the conflagration but thankfully, "All of them got out," per initial reports gathered by the department. The fire, filled with smoke and flames on both floors, was controlled in about 30 minutes.
Fighting the fire, which shut down a portion of Washington Avenue, crews managed to prevent any structural damage to neighboring homes. According to the account by woodtv, the on-scene efforts were extensive, with firefighters staying several hours to make sure all hot spots were thoroughly extinguished, a process aided by the use of drones to safely identify remaining threats from above without endangering the fire personnel.
No injuries were reported in the blaze. The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the KDPS Fire Marshal’s Office. People with information are encouraged to assist in the ongoing inquiry by reaching out to the KDPS Fire Marshal’s Office or by contacting the Silent Observer, as emphasized by arcwestmichigan.
