The search for Benetta Kaiwi, a 47-year-old Anahola woman, persists as the Kaua‘i Police Department appeals to the public for assistance. Kaiwi has been missing since her vehicle was discovered unattended on October 7 near Lumaha‘i Beach following what appeared to be a single-vehicle crash, reported by the Kaua‘i Police Department press release.
Details of the incident, relayed by Kaua‘i Police Department, recount that responders were dispatched to the scene around 8:45 p.m. where Kaiwi's vehicle was found approximately 100 feet down the cliffside, near the water's edge. It is feared that Kaiwi may have managed to inadvertently enter the water. The search extends onto land and sea, with the Kaua‘i Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard actively participating in operations.
Kaua‘i Police Department closed Kūhiō Highway for an hour the day after the incident to facilitate the removal of the stranded vehicle.
