Kauaʻi residents wanting to declutter can participate in a donation drive hosted by the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) at the Kaua‘i Resource Center (KRC). Next Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the ARC will accept items for reuse, including clothing, small furniture, children’s toys, books, and shoes, as detailed by a recent publication on the Kauai County's website.
Those looking to contribute can bring clothing and textiles, even if they are torn or stained. However, certain items like eWaste, chemicals, and broken appliances should not be brought. The public is encouraged to check with local thrift stores to see if they can accept donations before heading to KRC, ensuring every salvageable item has a place.
For donors' safety and to minimize congestion during the event, the Salvation Army has advised the public to stay in their vehicles throughout the process. While this may inconvenience some, the measure is in place to maintain a smooth flow of traffic and avoid injuries around heavy equipment.
Pick-up services are available for businesses or individuals who cannot make it to the KRC. It's possible to schedule pickups with the ARC for thrift stores by calling 808-241-4838, while home pick-up services can be organized through Habitat for Humanity Restore or RP’s Random Closet.
