The Kingsport Office of Cultural Arts is offering an advanced wire wrapping class for those interested in jewelry making. Scheduled for next month, the class will be taught by master wire sculpture artist Russell Lawson, who will instruct participants on how to wrap wires around stones effectively.
This is not just a standard stone setting workshop; according to the official announcement, it includes options like cabochon wraps, chainmail, crochet, and macramé. Participants can expand on what they've learned in the introductory class or from previous experience, with the aim of creating their own jewelry. The session is scheduled for November 10 in Room 228 at the Renaissance Center.
The class fee of $70 includes all necessary materials, so you do not need to bring your own tools. However, if you prefer to use your personal hammers and pliers, you are welcome to do so. The class will run from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the scheduled day.
Participants should have completed the introductory course or have some prior experience in jewelry making to ensure they can keep pace as Lawson teaches techniques for transforming simple stones into detailed pieces of wearable art.
