The advice stretches from prudent decoration protocol to the safe consumption of treats.
Electricity, while powering our ghoulish gadgets and spectacles, can be a serious hazard if not handled carefully. The LAFD stresses the importance of not overloading electrical outlets and keeping any flammable materials away from heat sources. Masks and costumes, though part of the seasonal fun, should not impede one's vision, especially when it comes to crossing streets. "Always look left, right and left again to assure safety before proceeding," their advice reads, reminding pedestrians to always stay vigilant and not to merely assume the right of way.
When it comes to trick-or-treating itself, the LAFD offers clear-cut guidelines. They suggest the use of flashlights and glow sticks to ensure that children are visible to drivers and suggest that a repeatable adult should accompany young ones on their neighborhood rounds. It's emphasized that trick-or-treaters should only visit homes that signal participation with a lit porch light and stay within familiar, well-lit areas. "Never enter a stranger's home or car for a treat," the checklist warns, fostering an environment of caution amidst the celebration.
