
A standoff in Lake County concluded early yesterday after a nearly five-hour negotiation between law enforcement and a 63-year-old man who reportedly shot a woman, subsequently identified as his wife. The Lake County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident at a Painesville Township residence, where the suspect, Jeffry Wyman, ultimately surrendered to authorities.
According to Cleveland19, the confrontation began around 10 p.m. on Monday when deputies arrived at a house in the 1600 block of West Jackson Street following reports of gunfire. They discovered a 56-year-old woman suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Subsequent conversations with a SWAT team led to Wyman's peaceful surrender, by approximately 3:30 a.m., deputies shared, additional charges against Wyman are possible.
The victim received prompt medical attention, initially taken to UH-Tripoint Medical Center in Concord Township, she was later airlifted to University Hospitals in Cleveland, Cleveland.com elucidated her wounds are not considered life-threatening.
During the incident, the surrounding area was cordoned off, and at least one neighboring home was hit by gunfire, though no additional injuries were reported, WKYC confirmed. Neighbors were advised to seek safety in their basements during the standoff. Wyman is charged with felonious assault while investigators consider other possible charges as the inquiry into the events progresses.
