A tragic incident occurred in Pinellas County on Sunday evening when a 51-year-old Largo woman was hit and killed by a car while trying to cross Ulmerton Road, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The woman, attempting to navigate the street on foot near 58th Street North just after 8 p.m., was tragically struck by a westbound Acura SUV, operated by a 51-year-old driver from Clearwater, according to WFLA.
The FHP has provided details indicating the pedestrian died right there at the scene of the accident, the circumstances leading up to which are still being investigated; the crash's impact reverberating beyond the crash site, animating the dangers nestled in every unlit crosswalk, the uncertainties that wrap themselves around the simple act of getting from one side to the other, as reported by FOX 13 News.
Further elaborating on the incident, the driver of the Acura SUV, also 51, was traveling west on Ulmerton Road when the Largo woman walked into the path of the vehicle causing the collision; the FHP stresses the importance of vigilance on the roads, for both drivers and pedestrians, as stated by WTSP.
The investigation into this fatal incident is still active. Officials are gathering evidence and seeking witnesses to understand what happened.
