Lend a hand to your city, and clear some clutter from your space. The City of Las Cruces is making it slightly easier for residents to dispose of unwanted household trash through the "Toss No Mas" campaign, a community cleanup program. Partnering with a handful of local organizations, the Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department brings open-top trash containers to various locations across town, offering a convenient drop-off for your standard refuse.
According to the City of Las Cruces, residents can bring their household trash to select spots on Saturday, October 12, from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Locations include Valley View Park, Tony Gomez Park, and the East Mesa Recreation Center among others, inviting citizens to make the most of this semi-annual cleanup event. Be advised, that containers will only be available until they're full, come early if you can.
When loading up your truck, or maybe just your trunk, keep in mind that not all items are welcome. The "Toss No Mas" initiative strictly prohibits the disposal of certain materials that pose environmental hazards. The city's list of items not allowed includes tires, medical waste, toxic materials, and large yard waste such as tree stumps. If you've got any of those, you must find another way to discard them.
It's a community affair, aimed at keeping Las Cruces beautiful, but remember, unloading is on you. The available spots, like Apodaca Park and Mesilla Town Hall, will be monitored to ensure everything runs smoothly. Las Crucens can head over to the city's official announcement for a full list of acceptable materials and designated drop-off locations. This effort is a cooperative endeavor involving the City of Las Cruces, the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Program, and other partners such as NMDOT and Keep Doña Ana County Beautiful.
Efforts like "Toss No Mas" help keep our local environment safe and clean, but it’s on all of us to follow the rules and be responsible stewards of our town. So Las Crucens, take a glance at that pile of clutter you've been meaning to get rid of, and take advantage of this opportunity to do so responsibly on October 12th. Cooperation is key, and with everyone's effort, we can keep our spaces pleasant and our footprints light.
