The city of Las Cruces is adding some color to the Triviz Drive multi-use trail with a mural project that is capturing the community's spirit and aesthetic appreciation. According to the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Parks and Recreation together with the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Program are dedicating their efforts to create a public art installation that doubles as a commitment to beautification and a salute to local culture.
Planning to beautify the Outlet Channel near the trail's north end, the collaborative mural will be situated just south of the Kohl’s department store, a locale frequented by residents for both shopping and outdoor recreation. The Channel, which runs beneath the breadth of Interstate 25, serves not only as a connector between the Triviz Drive and Telshor Boulevard multi-use trails, but now also as the canvas for local artistic expression, the project is set to commence on Monday, Oct. 28, and will run through to Friday, Nov. 1, according to the City of Las Cruces.
This initiative not only brightens up the space but also ensures that Las Cruces residents retain full access to the trail, the channel will remain open for foot and bicycle traffic while the mural is being painted. The city calls on passersby during the project duration to exercise caution and consciousness of the work in progress, signaling that community respect and safety are among the highest priorities.
Despite the ongoing work, the announcement promises minimal disruption to the daily flow of traffic given that the essence of community murals such as this one lies as much in their creation as in their completed state, embodying the lives they are a backdrop to even as they come into being.
