League City is preparing for expansion, and officials are seeking input from the community to help shape the future of the west side. On November 6, a public meeting will highlight the possibilities for the approximately 4,000 acres awaiting development. This land, which lies west of Hobbs Road and north of 517, is currently in the hands of various families and private developers, rather than the City itself.

During the meeting, set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, city staff and representatives from LJA, the consulting firm collaborating with the city, will present two different land-use drafts. Attendees can expect a presentation, an up-close look at potential plans, and the chance to engage with the development team. With the Westside Master Plan's groundwork laid since April of this year, the meeting seeks to ensure that future growth aligns with community interests and does not skew too heavily towards any one type of development, be it commercial or residential.

Initial feedback has already been integrated into these plans, following a survey conducted in the spring. According to a statement obtained by League City's announcement, residents showed a preference for active parks, family-friendly entertainment venues, and mixed-use spaces among other amenities. This feedback has informed the creation of the two drafts being presented.

As the project approaches this pivotal stage, the input from the public meeting will be critical. A Technical Advisory Committee and a Stakeholder Steering Committee have already reviewed the existing conditions of the area, addressing factors such as mobility, drainage, and environmental constraints. The consultation process, enriched by a market study on current demographics and trends, seeks to culminate in policy recommendations that can guide decision-making and, eventually, city council approval.

The Westside Master Plan represents a significant step toward responsible, community-supported development in League City. City officials are hopeful that participation in the upcoming public meeting will result in a plan that accurately reflects the residents' collective vision.
