Lewisville's own Planning Director Richard Luedke has just snagged a significant accolade for his extensive work in urban planning. He's been honored with the first Texas Planning Icon Award by the American Planning Association – Texas Chapter, a distinction that singles out decades of dedicated leadership and mentorship in the field. Luedke's more than ten years of volunteer efforts with the APA were a key factor in his selection for this award.

Known for his commitment to nurturing new talent, Luedke has tirelessly worked to thoroughly prepare aspiring planners for their futures. In his role as the APA-Texas Chapter's Professional Development Officer, a position he's held since 2009, Luedke oversaw scholarships meant to help planners take the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Exam. "I’m very humbled to receive this award,” Luedke said, as per the City of Lewisville. “I feel fortunate to share my knowledge and experiences with future planners in order to help them build on our successes."

Luedke's educational background includes a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Master of Urban Planning from Texas A&M University. He began his career in Wichita Falls and has since contributed his expertise to various Texas cities like Keller and Argyle before assuming his current role in Lewisville in 2015. Under his leadership, Lewisville has seen its Lewisville 2025 vision plan progress from paper to reality, with the revitalization of Old Town being a personal highlight for Luedke.
