Bring out your umbrellas, Pittsburgh. It looks like light rain showers are set to make a cameo today and hang around until early Saturday, just in time to sweep through the weekend. A cold front, currently staging a journey across Missouri, is headed our way and bringing a little wet weather with it, albeit with rainfall totals expected to stay on the shy side of 0.1 inches for most, according to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA.
Overnight temperatures are taking a dip towards the freezing mark, especially north of Pittsburgh. The cold air, as it blankets the earth, priming river valleys for some patchy morning fog just as the sun thinks about rising. Don't let these low temperatures fool you; the afternoon promises to gain 5-10 degrees above Thursday's high, despite the increase in cloud cover that'll play coy with our sunny expectations.
As the high pressure system bids adieu to the region, the aviation outlook seems clear for most of the day, though pockets of river valley fog played hide and seek this morning, too subdued to meddle with any significant TAF sites. As the cold front draws near, conditions are expected to transition with sprinkles of showers and a wind shift. Friday evening sees the front usher in a cooler ambiance and has airports expecting ceilings to drop a little more intimate, to about 5,000 feet, as per the service's aviation weather outlook.
But not all is gray, as Saturday brings back our beloved dry weather, along with a touch of brisk energy in the form of breezy conditions. The winds, expected to be around 20-30 knots, suggest an isolated fire weather concern given the dryness in the air, according to a statement obtained by the National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA. Sunday continues the trend with seasonal temperatures and a sense of weather-weary calm.
