A police operation unfolded in Lodi today after a stolen van led officers on a high-speed pursuit beginning from Stockton, said local officials. After speeding through several fences the van crashed, prompting a manhunt for its occupants. KCRA 3 reported that the pursuit started when a stolen vehicle failed to stop for San Joaquin County deputies around 9:40 a.m. near Hammer Lane and Etna Street in Stockton. The chase terminated near Mills Avenue and Lake Street in Lodi where the driver was eventually taken into custody with the help of a K9 unit.
The passenger, a female, managed to elude capture; her search has become a concentrated effort by local law enforcement, causing a significant police presence within Lodi’s Mills and Ayers Avenues area. According to CBS Sacramento News Lodi police have asked that residents stay indoors while the search, which has officers going door to door, continues.
The aftermath of the pursuit has disrupted the daily ebb and flow of Lodi, eliciting a response that speaks to the broader concerns surrounding stolen vehicle chases and their frequency. "Officers took the driver into custody with the help of a K9 but are searching for the passenger," the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office was paraphrased by KCRA 3. Police have not yet released detailed descriptions of the suspects.
The serious nature of the incident and pursuit remains evident, as the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office has yet to declare the passenger found. Residents have been reminded to stay cautious and vigilant, the Sheriff’s Office requesting people to avoid the area if possible, as reported by FOX40. The investigation and search are ongoing, and updates will follow as more, information becomes available.
