Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has pressed charges against Michael DiGiorgio, accused of a series of chilling crimes against multiple women over two years. DiGiorgio, who is set to face arraignment, allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted nine women in the beachside communities of Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach between 2019 and 2021. According to the District Attorney's Office, the offenses culminated tragically in the death of one of the victims due to the alleged drugging.
In a statement reflecting the gravity of the situation, Gascón expressed his condolences, saying, "I extend my deepest sympathy to the victims, whose lives have been irrevocably changed and the life lost by the alleged brutal acts of the offender." He underscored the commitment of his office to hold the accused accountable and issued an appeal for anyone with additional information to come forward to aid the Redondo Beach Police Department, as detailed by the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office. DA Gascón highlighted the zero-tolerance stance on such predatory activities within the community.
Scheduled for arraignment at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center, DiGiorgio faces a catalog of felony charges that could lead to life imprisonment if he is convicted. The list includes one count of murder and multiple counts relating to sexual assault, including rape by use of a drug, and forcible sexual penetration among others. The additional allegation that he caused great bodily injury during the act of furnishing a controlled substance compounds the severity of his case.
The Redondo Beach Police Department, specifically the Special Investigations Unit, is leading the investigation with assistance from the LADA’s Sex Crimes Division, the District Attorney's Office noted. The authorities suspect that there are additional victims that have yet to come forward. Investigators have set up a hotline, asking for anyone with information to contact 714-863-2859.
