Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has charged Jalyn Simone SmithJermott with the murder of her three-month-old baby in Porter Ranch. In a tragic turn of events, the father, Eric Shannon Johnson, has also been implicated, facing charges of child abuse concerning the case, as reported by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
According to the charges, SmithJermott, who faces both a murder charge and one felony count of assault on a child causing death, could be sentenced to spend up to life in prison, if convicted as charged. Meanwhile, Johnson, grappling with his allegations, could face up to six years in prison for his involvement. "My heart goes out to the victim, who suffered unimaginable pain at the hands of those who were meant to provide love, safety, and protection," District Attorney Gascón said, as per the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
SmithJermott is scheduled to make her court appearance for arraignment on October 14, while Johnson, who has already entered a not-guilty plea, is preparing to confront evidence at his preliminary hearing set for October 17, as detailed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
