A man is currently in custody after an alleged random stabbing attack on the Las Vegas Strip over the weekend. The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Adam Carter, is facing an attempted murder charge following the incident that occurred on Sunday, September 29, as reported by News 3 Las Vegas. The victim, described as a man over the age of 60, sustained a serious stab wound and had to be taken to UMC for emergency surgery.
The attack took place along a pedestrian bridge connecting the New York-New York and Excalibur casinos. Carter was apprehended in front of the Shake Shack within the New York-New York Casino, while the weapon, a steak knife with a six-inch blade, was recovered in the vicinity. Despite his uncooperative demeanor and incoherent statements upon arrest, Carter later admitted to having recently used methamphetamine and consumed alcohol, according to the arrest report obtained by News 3 Las Vegas. The suspect had, an outstanding electronic warrant for trespassing from a previous incident.
Court records indicate that Carter’s initial court appearances on October 1 and 3 were met with his refusal to be transported to the courtroom. A judge has since ordered that Carter be transported "by any means necessary" for his next court date scheduled for Monday, October 7. Further information from the arrest report, published by News 3 Las Vegas, includes that the victim and his wife were walking along the bridge when Carter approached asking for water. After being ignored, he allegedly stabbed the man.
Visitors on the Las Vegas Strip expressed their alarm to 8 News Now, with one man, Chad Numrich, expressing concern over the randomness of the attack: "It’s kind of unbelievable, a little bit scary. Just because it could be anybody." Laura Calk echoed this sentiment, stating, "Honestly it can happen anywhere." She suggested that staying vigilant is of utmost importance. While most violent crime has seen a decrease in the area, aggravated assault, and total person crime arrests have recorded a slight uptick in the past month.
