A man was injured in what authorities believe to be a drive-by shooting outside White Oak Music Hall in Houston yesterday evening. The incident led to the venue canceling its scheduled events for the evening, as reported by ABC13.
The shooting took place around 9 p.m. when shots were fired from a vehicle driving along N. Main Street. The victim, who was in the venue's smoking section at the time, was hit and subsequently transported to the hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery. Houston police, while still piecing together the details, suspect that the shooter might have been a disgruntled individual who was earlier ejected from the premises and later chose to brazenly open fire on the club.
In a statement obtained by FOX26 Houston, the police shared that they are in conversations with the management of White Oak Music Hall to understand more about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The area outside the venue was active at the time, with three stages hosting performances.
After the incident, the music hall was swiftly shut down, prompting the dispersal of hundreds of attendees. Eyewitness video depicted attendees attempting to grasp the situation while searching for transport away from the area. "It's possible that he was upset because he got thrown out and did a drive-by shooting on the club," Lt. Larry Crowson told ABC13, highlighting a possibility that personal grievances might have sparked the violence.
White Oak Music Hall has expressed cooperation with the ongoing investigation through posts on social media and assured that all ticket purchasers for the canceled events will receive refunds. Despite the quick response from law enforcement, no arrests have been made thus far, and a detailed suspect description was not immediately available to the public.
