The seaside city of Manhattan Beach is positioning itself for new leadership with the impending appointment of Talyn Mirzakhanian as the next City Manager, following Bruce Moe's retirement. Announced on Thursday by the City Council, Mirzakhanian, who has served as the Acting City Manager since August, was selected after a nationwide search that drew over 50 applicants, as per the city's official announcement.
Serving initially as a planner in the City of Calabasas for 12 years, Mirzakhanian's journey, marked by an extensive municipal experience that spans nearly two decades, eventually led her to Manhattan Beach. As Acting City Manager since former City Manager Bruce Moe's retirement, she has been recognized not just for filling in the shoes left behind but standing taller in them, poised to take on the role officially. "Talyn’s commitment to our city, work ethic, responsiveness, and collaboration has demonstrated that she is the ideal choice for City Manager," Mayor Amy Howorth expressed in a display of full confidence.
This sentiment is shared by many who have witnessed her career growth from working in the Planning Department in Pasadena to her contribution as Community Development Director in Manhattan Beach, where she has overseen complex projects and policy development. "It will be an honor to accept this role and to continue serving the residents of Manhattan Beach," Mirzakhanian humbly stated, looking to enhance the "quality of life for all residents and to ensure that we effectively tackle any future challenges."
With an educational background that includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Planning from the University of Southern California, Mirzakhanian brings a puzzling wealth of experience as she steps into her new role. The City Council, whose upcoming regular meeting on November 6 will consider the terms and conditions of her employment agreement, anticipates her direction in guiding the city as it continues to blossom into both a beloved residential haven and a destination for visitors.
