Last Thursday evening, the Mankato Department of Public Safety was quickly mobilized after being notified of a missing 8-year-old child. The situation was dire, the child, known to be non-verbal, was last seen in the vicinity of the 100 block of Homestead Road. In response, authorities issued a Code Red to alert local residents, an effort aimed to rapidly enlist community assistance in locating the young child.
Time, in such cases, is a relentless adversary, and efforts to find the missing child were undertaken with a stark sense of urgency. An extensive search ensued, rapidly drawing together varied strands of the community and law enforcement. The Mankato Police, alongside the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office and MN State Patrol, worked through the night in a bid to safely find the child. The City of Mankato's Facebook post, accessed by SFist, details the timeline and efforts that finally culminated in the early hours of Friday.
Relief came at 2:20 a.m. when the child was found near Map Drive, a mere few hours after the alarming disappearance. According to the post by the City of Mankato, Minnesota Government, the child was promptly taken by Mayo Health System paramedics to be evaluated as a precautionary step, ensuring that no harm had come during the time away from safety.
To reassure the public and signal the conclusion of the search, the City of Mankato subsequently updated their information portals and thanked all who had contributed to the operation's success.
