A tragic incident unfolded at Manor Senior High School in Texas when an 18-year-old student was stabbed to death by a classmate during an altercation. The suspect, also 18, was arrested following the event that has left the Manor community in shock. According to KSAT, the victim, identified as Darrin Loving, suffered a fatal chest wound and efforts by fire officials to save his life were unsuccessful.
The Manor Police Department took swift action, detaining Mac Brown Mbah Mbanwei, the alleged assailant, near the scene. Mbanwei now faces murder charges and is being held in the Travis County Jail. Manor police and the school district’s police department are conducting an investigation, underlining the events that led to the deadly confrontation. Manor High School's campus, located approximately 15 miles northeast of Austin, was put on lockdown before administrators decided to cancel subsequent classes for the safety and well-being of students and staff, as per KSAT.
As the Manor community grapples with the gravity of the situation, classes were suspended for Wednesday and Thursday to allow everyone time to process the loss. The Independent reported that Superintendent Dr. Robert Sormani extended his condolences, stating, "This loss is devastating for our entire community, and our hearts go out to their family, friends, and all who knew him." To assist students during this difficult period, counselors will be available at Manor Early College on Wednesday and at the high school on Thursday.
Furthermore, Sormani assured the district will reevaluate its campus security protocols. "We understand that this situation raises concerns, and we will also be reviewing the security on campuses," he said, indicating an awareness of the community's desire for increased safety measures and support in the aftermath of the tragedy. A decision regarding the cancelation of Friday's classes and any extracurricular activities was said to be forthcoming, signaling the administration's ongoing response to this profound disruption of school life.
