In a tragic escalation following a reported domestic violence incident, Mansfield police fatally shot a man after a tense three-hour standoff that began yesterday. WBNS reports that officers were summoned to the 200 block of Cline Avenue just before 2 a.m., where they encountered the suspect, armed with a knife before he retreated into the residence, where his girlfriend and her two small children were present.
The man, who the police identified as appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, engaged with authorities from inside the home. According to details furnished by WKYC, the standoff ensued, with the Richland County Allied Special Operation Response Team and hostage negotiators being involved in trying to defuse the situation.
During the prolonged negotiations, the suspect released the two children unharmed.
