A Maryland State Trooper is facing DUI charges following a collision on Interstate 83. Lt. Duane Hill, a trooper with nearly 20 years of service in the Human Resources Division of the Maryland State Police, was involved in a two-vehicle crash while driving his vehicle. According to FOX Baltimore, the incident occurred early this morning near Ruxton Road.
Hill, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, has been arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained in the accident. The Maryland State Police have placed Hill on administrative leave and suspended pay while an administrative investigation is conducted, as reported by WMAR-2 News.
The aftermath of the crash garnered a response from the state police, who responded to the scene after the collision was reported. Authorities have yet to disclose further details about the nature of the crash or the ensuing investigation.
The incident, which took place around 1 a.m. yesterday, marks a grave moment for an officer entrusted with the duty of public safety. The breach of this responsibility by a law enforcement member comes as a sobering reminder of the vulnerability of all individuals to lapses in judgment. Hill's status with the department will likely hinge on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
